It's easy for someone to say they'd pay the price IF they had the money - when they don't. Such statements are meaningless unless someone actually shows up with the cash.
I wouldn't be afraid of Ebay. I've sold many tractors and trucks there during the past few months and I was not forced to use Paypal, nor was I charged high fees. Just make sure you read all the rules if and when you list. They change a lot. If you don't put a reserve on the item - you must pull the sale X amount of hours before the sale's end or you are required to sell for whatever it gets bid up to. If you list with too high a reserve - it sends many potential buyers away. I've seen tractors and trucks listed with $2000 reserves that got NO bid. But when relisted with $500 or no reserves- some of those same items sold for $3000-$4000. Maybe it's a Freudian thing but it seems high reserves turn people off.
One big problem with Ebay is the trucking expenses when selling heavy items like tractors. I just sold a Bolens Ride-A-Matic on Ebay. The tractor sold for $475 and the shipping was over $500!. New York to the Chicago area. I would of made out better selling it locally for $500- except there were no takers.
