They don't have to be split rims, a tubeless tire run flat or even low will zipper on you and blow out. I've seen several over the years, thank GOD we never had anyone get hurt. My good friend, in another shop, was walking by a tire that had been repaired several hours before. The tire and split rim was leaning up against a pile of repaired tires when it blew out, killing him almost instantly. THAT IS WHY YOU SHOULD ALWAYS TAKE YOUR TIRES TO A PROFSSIONAL TIRE REPAIR SHOP. If you repaired that tire and it blew out killing someone, YOU and YOU alone are responsible for that persons death. The courts have upheld this time after time.
