After having to take the computer in and get it fixed 3 times, we bought Avira and Malwarebytes. We haven"t had a problem since. Both are about $25.00/yr.
Avira is "real time" protection and will warn you when something tries to gain access. It also will update automatically as soon as you turn on your computer.
For Malwarebytes, you have to open the application and click on update. If you haven"t updated for a while, a pop up box will appear to remind you.
