Agree with the others that your cap likely has a crack. Crack could be from age, manufacturing defect, or from a worn distributer.
When you replace the cap and rotor button, I would also check the distributer main shaft for excess play in up and down directions as well as sideways slop just to insure that a worn sloppy distributer is not causing the crack.
