Sorry i stated that wrong the external resistor is for gens 1101423 and 355 they had the adjustable third brush. Sometimes the reg you have comes with part#1429 depending on who sells them they can have a different #. Parts books get wrong # all the time as these systems are old and when new books are printed they do get gen# all mixed up. I have been geting mine from Car Quest as i have a dealer who is very knowlegable about getting the rite stuff. I do think you need to take that reg and gen# to the dealer to make sure you have the correct one. The reg you have with the external resistor is made for the adjustable third brush and then the field wire doesent go to the lite control hope this helps solve your problem.
