Millions of engines have lasted well over 10,000 hours on conventional oil. The type of oil is the last thing to worry about. Maintenance and use do more to determine how long an engine will last. Plug it in, let it warm up and then also let it idle for a couple minutes before shutting down will do more to prolong engine life than using synthetic oil. Change the oil and filters regularly and you'll be good to go. You bought the machine used so there's no way to know how it was maintained in the past or what oil was used. If there's engine wear, synthetic oil is going to fix it. I think it's throwing away money. If you were needing to start it in -30 all the time, then maybe a 5-40 or 0-40 synthetic may be a benefit.
