Ya see the shipper shaft assy in that pic Ray posted? Pull that sucker out of there and dollars to donuts you'll find a flat spot worn into the end of it, that little hangy down nub that does the actual work. And look at the trunion block too because that's probably also worn, that is, if the trunion block is even in there. I've bought a lot of Gravelys that didn't have the trunion block at all. Almost all the shifter rods have some bow or bend to them. Lube usually isn't a problem because you get spray/mist up in that area. It also depends on exactly which shift linkage you have. One kind uses a long bolt into the advance casting that can bend and bind, another that uses a bicycle type chain often needs the chain lubed. No matter what, all the systems are pretty simple and easy to fix. That's what made Gravely such a great tractor, simplicity.
