Sounds about right. My daughter is in grade 4 French Immersion. She is learing everything in the English stream, but does it all in French.
She does need extra help with some things - infact we pulled her from school on Fridays last year so my wife could work more one on one with her. If she falls behind again we will do the same.
In this era, you can"t expect the schools to take care of everything, unless you go to Private School. In addition to this, schools cover far more than when we were in school(computers and the internet have changed a lot). Is it better, no probably not, just different. But we can"t let our kids get behind - so we do what we need to do.
My daughter is excellent at speaking and functioning in French. She was struggling with English reading, but she has made huge improvements- and she loves it now.
