They may be junk but if they were the best machine on the market, it's not likely you'd hear it from a Kubota dealer. Bobcat has good marketing and some good machines but they also have some machines that are lacking compared to their competition. Their first excavators used simple gear pumps and standard controls while other machines were using variable pumps and even pilot controls. They were old technology and used a lot more HP/fuel for the same size machine. They also claimed they had more digging power but didn't measure it by the accepted standard. I've used a Nagano(Japanese) excavator and an almost new Bobcat and the Bobcat was not anywhere as smooth or precise to run.
