A neighbor asked me to cut, rake and bale his little 5 acre patch. Just off the cuff I told him I'd do it for $1 a bale and he thought I was trying to rob him. That evening I figured my cost in wire and fuel alone is about .65 a bale, leaving me .35 a bale to cover the equipment and my time. I was kind of glad he went away without accepting especially since he probably would have roped me into helping him pick it up out of the field just to be "neighborly".
He found someone to do it on shares - they were ticked when the neighbors kids told them there was over 200 golf balls in the field that they probably baled up.
