Stage 1 has the serial plate on the left side of the clutch housing long way up and down and the 2 bolt starter mounted to right of tractor center line.
Stage 2 has the serial plate long ways front to rear and the 3 bolt mount starter to left of center. Center housing also has no openings for the hydraulic openings like a stage one has.
Will ad that some stage 1 SH tractors came with the front bolster like a stage 2 and some with the same grill. Saw a couple that came without hydraulics and a few with the hydraulics removed sometime. Once in a while you can see a stage one that had a battery box under the seat added.
If you want a genuine SH go by the serial number plate and housing its attached to and then start to check that the rest of the tractor parts match a stage 2 SH.
