One thing I see omitted in all the replies to this is, Ethanol production was started back when OPEC shut off the tap in the 70s. It isn't just about taxes, pollution, or corn growing. It was about having energy to keep vehicles running if OPEC did it again. I'm over 60, and fully remember gas less weekends. Even numbered gas days. Gas stations shutting down left and right because their suppliers could not get fuel. When gas went from 25cents to a dollar fifty in one year, we started thinking about ANYTHING we cold do to keep vehicles and the economy running.
