Filing a return and paying tax due by March 1st relieves you of the necessity and prevents you from being penalized for failure to make estimated payments throughout the tax year. This rule is one of the main reasons I cannot fathom a so called tax professional advising someone to make non compulsory estimated payments as was advised by several in an earlier post especially since oclearly stated that he had an off farm job.
