I cultivated about 900 gallons of algae in the home heating oil a couple years ago. No water in the tanks, no real old crap, it all grew from a tainted batch that was delivered in early summer. Apparently, if you use the fuel fast enough, you might not even notice... as it sits in heat all summer...it grows and grows. Natural sulpher used to control this prehistoric bacteria, that is all removed nowaday for pollution laws I get this 'biocide' from NAPA. A quart jug does my winter's supply. Not cheap, but neither is the alternative...
