Well, if that's the case, they are in it for the long haul unless you can poison or kill the nest. And as someone else mentioned above, they will fly at night if they are disturbed, although night will give you better cover, but be careful when after you get them riled up that you don't run into a tree trying to get away from them. Most likely yellow jackets if burrowed like that. Have some meat tenderizer mixed up like a paste to rub on yourself if they get you. It won�t take all of the sting out, but will take about 2/3�s of it pretty quick. The other 1/3rd you will have to live with as a battle scar.
