I commute 200 mile a day, and have an 03 Jetta TDI, and have had pretty good luck with it. Ran synthetic oil in it, changed every 8 to 10k and got 47mpg with 380,000 miles on it. I changed my timing belt every 100k, but the last one only lasted 80k.
