The captive nut is for the generator belt tightener bracket on late 8N's that have the generator on the LH side.
You have a 9N with the generator on the RH side so the very EXISTENCE of the nut is of NO consequence to your tractor!
The original WP never had the captive nut, it's just the parts supply chain trying to keep things simple and CHEAP by making a "one size fits all" waterpump to fit 9N, 2N, early 8N, and late 8N!
