My observation has been that most people's 50# bales are more like 35# and the 40# bales are more like 25#... and everything here is sold 'by the bale'. It's hard to compete when you actually have a 50-55# bale and need a price for it... I saw somebody's '40#' bales of straw last fall. The boys were going with them 2 in each hand; 4 at a time... So your ton could range anywhere from 80 bales down to 30-35 bales.
