Been using extension cords for years on tractors and trailers. You would be surprised what tenants leave behind. Recently I got a 100 ft 12 g cord. All I had to do was replace the one end. That cord won't be used for wiring.
Most cords come 3 wire, however if they are only 2 wire, I still use them. By running a ground wire, you don't have to worry about a rusty connection, especially on a trailer.
When I wired up my old tractors, I buy the new in-line fuse holders so I can use the flat fuses or use a circuit breaker. Each circuit gets fused. I use a 30 amp auto reset circuit breaker on my charging circuit. Some on YT gave me heck, saying I would have nothing but problems. Well I never did. BTW, I haven't had any electrical issues like blowing fuses or wire shaffing.
