Well rrlund that darn tractor set in my shop for almost a month while the owner looked for cheaper parts at that time. Maybe there are cheaper kits available now but then there were not.
Here is the long and short of it. The White/Oliver tractors where a pretty good tractor with a lousy company selling them. The Company went broke. The Company that the brand evolved into is not so great on parts as far as price and availability. I have more troubles with AGCO than all the other brands put together. Maybe it is just the local dealers around here but none of them are real interested in fast or economical parts. It should not take 3 days to get common parts.
Maybe I am getting the reverse "cold shoulder" that the non JD guys talk about at their JD dealerships. I don't think that is the case though. I have several pieces of Agco part supplied equipment. The one I use the most is an Oliver 1655 that I bought with very few hours on it over 25 years ago. Like the tractor. Hate the hassle getting parts for it.
Old for the price mentioned your friend should jump on the tractor if it even runs or moves. For the price he can get it for you could sell it to any salvage yard and make money on it.
