A gear pump pumps when the gears turn so that the meshed area of the gears moves opposite of the oil flow. If you can see, or imagine) the teeth coming toward you where they mesh, the oil flows away from you. The rotation direction depends on which shaft is driven wrom which end, and in which direction. The volume of the area between the teeth carries oil in that direction and the meshing squeezes it out into the exhaust/pressure port. Jim
