We use to use "aqueous ammonia" Just a real strong ammonia, had to get it at a chemical supply place. sounds like regular ammonia would work as well. We also added a little surfactant to the mix.
I did this on 400 gallon saddle tanks and never had any problems. Ran the pump and circulated it through the whole system.
I also kept an old broom and swept the inside of the tanks (as best I could reach) to get off any residual, but we were still using some wettable powders back then and it would settle out some.
