PEI is no different than anywhere else... Whatever you read has been blown WAY out of proportion. The idea that there are many dead rivers is crap. They'd have to HAVE many rivers for them to be dead......... PEI probably has more limitations on commercial agriculture than anywhere else in Canada and a raft of idiots in the NFU that are pushing for more. Their pesticide regulations are fairly tight now... along with regs to take sloped land out of row crop production, riparian strips, etc. Some of the things you read about are more likely caused by siltation from runoff moreso than chemical runoff. DOn't forget... I'm not that far away from there... and went to college with quite a few islanders... even some Curley's that were mentioned in one of Lou's stories... It's NOT what the media makes it out to be.
