technically yes, but don't expect any major performance gains from doing it by the book.
Generally your ground will probably already be adequate to operate well enough - unless you always find yourself on the fringe, where a small tweak might make the difference between barely audible and completely unusable.
In most cases, the big performance gains would come from a bigger antenna and better antenna placement.
