: : I have two tractors, a 1951 8N and a 1970 Ford 2000. The hydraulics on the 2000 seem to work all at once, while the 8N is more gradual. Is this normal for each of these tractors? Or is there something wrong with one or the other?

: : When I lift the hydraulic handle on the 2000, the arms do not move until I am almost at the top, and then the arms lift completely up. Same goes when going down, all I have to do is move the handle about an inch down, and the arms go down. The rest of the travel of the lever down does not seem to do anything.

: : The 8N arms will move up and down with the lever, and I can set the height of the arms by leaving the lever in a certain position.

: >> Could be as simple as having the 2000 in "draft control" instead of "position control". In front of wherethe hitch lever quadrant goes into the lift cover, there is a small lever coming out of the hitch cover right close to the chassis. If I remember correctly, this lever should be in a horizontal orientation for "position control". If it is in this position, try shifting it down, as I could have the settings mixed up. If this doesn't cure it, the hitch will have to come off for cleanup & readjustment.. Good luck.

Rick,

Oops, I mixed up horizontal and vertical as I think you did too. The lever is currently in the vertical position (up). So I will try it down tonight and see what happens.

Doug.

The saga starts with the following message: Hey guys I have a decision to make. I know what you all will probably suggest and it will probably agree with me way down inside, but here it is. I have a picture blown up and framed in my "tractor room" of a Farmall M. It was my Grandpa's tractor, of which whom I never got to meet. He froze to death getting this tractor out of the barn to pull a truck out of the ditch before I was born. Anyway my dad and aunt had to sell it at the auction, ... [Read Article]
