I know what happened. The clutch was running on the throwout bearing all the time. It eventually seized up temporarily while engaged adainst the fingers by the hand clutch, and started eating away at the adjustment bolts on the clutch fingers. The bearing is no longer running loaded, because it made it's own clearance. Now I just can't use the PTO until the bearing gets replaced, which isn't really a big deal.
