Went through it myself after 20 years, no kids. Neither one had enough money to buy out the other's share of the house. Lawyer advised to not ask for court date until after house was sold. My suggestion, she keep 1 car & stuff inside house except my clothes & personal effects, I keep other car & stuff in outside garage. Her lawyer wanted to inventory everything & do exact split. My counter offer would be everything except clothes we were wearing be put on auction, split the cash. They agreed to my first offer. Split proceeds from house sale, plus gave her enough cash to live on 6 months & find a job. They didn't even appear at court session, so judge approved the settlement. My lawyer bill & court fees between $6-700. WJ
