A few years ago we had an old steel diesel tank which was kept as a reserve tank, but with a bit of diligence(or some luck!) we never needed it, so it just sat and rusted away, until we noticed a leak...it was only about half full and we ran the 100 gallons into barrels...it was full of cr*p so we put 2 milk filter socks over the hose nozzel, held in place with a hose clamp. We used it in the tractors after filtering again using the same idea only this time we fitted the filter socks over the end of the funnel......We never had any problems, but the first filters were so bad they only filtered about 40 gallons before we had to change them. the final filters were good for the whole lot and were quite clean when finished.
