The world was a fantasy world for me early on - ie "Little Red Hen", "Henny Penny", Three Little Pigs". Then my mother introduced me to the real world of stealing their eggs and butchering them when they got too old to lay.
She was fair about it - I could either join the world as it is or I could be a vegetarian. I might have able to go "cold turkey" on giving up bacon and eggs or fried chicken. But after learning the ingredients she needed for her renowned cocoanut cakes, I capitulated. Not only did I help her gather the eggs, I even helped chase down "Sunday dinner" and retrieved the execution axe for her.
