I read somewhere that in the past ten years South Dakota and North Dakota farmers/ranchers converted 1.2 million acres to crop land. Some guys even push the dugouts back to level so they don't have to farm around that extra quarter of an acre. It is how things are for the time being- high grain prices have made grazing land more valuable as farm land. But this has happened before and history will repeat itself. The corrections in the farm economy have already begun... I farm and raise cattle so I'm not for or against either side, but it seems like too much of anything, one way or the other, is never good.
