Have only 3 hives now, had more but depending on the weather and other factors, numbers go up and down. Going to do a split today to get to 4 and hopefully split 2 more hives mid may to get to 6 and leave one alone for honey production. I enjoy them, but they are a lot of work, are good for pollination for fruit trees and most vegetables. As for BVT for arthiritus my grandad had RA and would go to bee hive and stick hand in opening, get stung a few times, flex hand and say it made it feel better if done regularly. to a 14 y/o watching I thought he was crazy, but if he was that tuff I wasnt going to say anything. for a hobby to say it is cool I would suggest getting with a local bee club, or someone with hives for rest of this year and see if she still wants to do it. May be too late to get bees now anyway unless its a swarm which is extra work. HTH
