I have used Cabot"s solid stain latex "barn red" color. It has lasted almost 10 years on 3 barns we have--a large bank barn, smaller loafing barn and corn crib. My white trim is only on the windows. I used Benjamin Moore "brilliant white" latex paint. It does not last as long because it is paint and not stain. I used a 4" roller on the vertical siding because a larger roller would not work on cupped boards. I cut in with a large brush on the battens. The barns are sided with poplar board and batten siding.
