I keep a bottle of Animal Iodine in my shop for whatever use is needed. I guess I'm still kicking. It's a pint and cost about what the 1 oz bottle for humans costs.
I guess the AMA or FDA has inspection requirements for human consumption that are more stringent. Just because something is manufactured and not inspected doesn't mean there is anything wrong with it.
I use udder cream on my hands and elbows frequently.
