While i can't answer for Rex, i know that some people who run tractors almost exclusively on paved roads turn tires backwards for better wear... they seem to last longer that way. I've also noticed that many combines in NZ ran their tires backwards, and i was told this is so if they get into wet areas, they can reverse out rather than get stuck (not sure how well that works, but it sounds like it might).
