Dart has done studies on this stuff. They have 2500 trucks that run millions of miles and hours every year so they get a good test sample. Here is their advice: There is no verifiable evidence that oil additives make any difference in engine life. There is however evidence that long oil change intervals with synthetic oils like Amzoil will shorten engine life. So much so that Dart now requires all drivers that have trucks leased through them to send evidence that they change their oil every 20,000 miles regardless of which oils is used or it terminates their lease. They also will not help drivers financially to repair engines if they have used long oil change intervals and synthetic oils.
Lots of people claim good results with Lucas, but those are the people that are concerned about maintenance and would do a good job anyway and not likely have an oil related failure. So how do you verify that Lucus works if you would not have had a problem anyway.
