Missouri is far superior than Kansas, however I may be a little biased!! Check out areas east of Kansas City. Lots of smaller farms to be had, or just 10-20 acre plots to create your own hobby farm. Taxes are relatively low, most people are friendly, lots of outdoors activities (fishing, hunting, etc) available. I live in Grain Valley, about 13,000 population. Originally a farm town, now is an outskirt suburb of K.C. It still has the farm town feel, but has city amenities within a short drive.
