I'm about two hours East of the mountains/Ashville in Concord, but in general NC is good for Copperheads and Timber Rattlers, and the occasional Cottonmouth in certain areas. In the mountains there is also the chance of seeing bears, wildcats, and bobcats. Thankfully your no more likely to see any one of them just because your camping out than you would be to see a skunk, opossum, racoon, or any other wild animal.
