All of those reasons plus more is why I use my buzzbox stick welder the most for all tasks. Absolutely zero maintenance involved with it and it is my 3-in-1 multi tool.
a) Welds fine on any steel above 16 gauge thickness.
b) Free source of heating metal for bending or freeing rusted nuts or even brazing with my Twin Carbon Arc torch. (no gas to buy - only electricity which is cheap).
c) Crude cut metal or blow holes in metal by throwing 6011 in stinger and crank up the amps. (sometimes even dip the rod in water first for more aggressive cut)
I also have a wire welder to, but try to only use it only when I really do need it on the thin metal since the consumables do add up with it.
