The forward clutch is burnt up or like these guys said, a snap ring is broken. All the forward gears work with the forward drum applied, but not the reverse. You"re gonna have to tear it down. If you want a good tranny for it, rebuild the one you have rather than buy another. The TH400's in motorhomes use planetaries with straight cut gears... much stronger than the more common helical cut ones, but hard to find. If you buy a rebuilt one you won"t know what you"re getting.
