Yes sir on the wait for the second oil change to go syn. Reason is as you said let things wear in.
Now any reasonably thinking person ought to have a flare come on in their head with this........don't use syn. initially because the engine needs to wear in first???????????
When I bought my new tractor in '07 (I said '05 the other day but I had a brain F.....) It had a Cummins naturally aspired diesel.
I wanted to run Rot T full syn 5w-40. so I called Cummins USA and asked them if I could use it. I got a polite reply back that said: Sir, your Cummins diesel will LOVE you for using that oil. Just wait till time to change out the original fill (of paraffin oil)".
