I have been using 0w40 in both my tractors for a couple of years now. You can leave it in summer and winter. I have a 1973 JD 2130 and a 1983 JD 2550. They start much easier at -30. The 2130 doesn't use any oil even slugging in hot weather, but the 2550 uses about 1/2 quart a day when working really hard in really hot weather, but a cup of Lucas oil treatment stops that. My JD dealer showed me on his computer that JD recommends 0w40, and also says that you can go 50% longer between oil changes. The only reason the new oils were not recommended in the operators manuals is that they were not available then.
