I remember this being discussed several years ago. The one thing that scares me is the extend oil change periods with synthetic in an engine that runs in dust. I just don't think the air and oil filters can get it all. The oil just plain needs to be changed more often in an engine that runs in a dirty atmosphere.
I have only one example of this so it can't be called scientific. My brother-in-law bought a 1086 new in 1978. A couple of months later I bought a new 1086. Both of us are meticulous about caring for our machinery and we put about identical hours on both tractors and used them in practically identical conditions for the first 25 years or so.
He ran synthetic oil, I ran regular 30WT at first and then when 15-40 came out I switched to the 15-40. I've always used IH oil until a couple of years ago when I started using bulk Deere oil. Both of us overhauled the engine at 5000 hours. His oil pump was weak and had to be replaced, mine was still good.
Both of us overhauled at 10,000 hours. At 10,000 hours his crankshaft had to be ground and the cam and oil pump were worn beyond specs. My crankshaft was still at the factory measurements, the cam was still usable but 2/3 of the way to replacement time. I did replace the oil pump at that time. Now my 1086 has 16000 hours, doesn't use oil and the oil pressure is good. It starts decent in cold weather. He doesn't use his much anymore so I can't tell you what kind of shape it's in.
Like I said, this is only a one time comparison and no two tractors are alike so there might be other factors in there. Jim

The colony remained far from self-supporting and it was not until the early 1800's that things started to improve. Free settlers started to arrive, they followed the explorers across the mountains and where land was suitable set up farms. T
