David, Really, I think you must be doing great at only 6 weeks out.
Remember... healing from surgery takes a long time. It just does. I have had three abdominal surgeries (one about a 7 inch incision).
And even when you get feeling better - feeling great even... you will no doubt over-do on some project and it will kick your tail. Then you will hurt and feel like you just had surgery again. It is just part of the process. Takes months for your body to full heal. Take it easy and listen to the docs. Do your rehab, but don't push it and overdo.
