If I was working on that one , I would grab it with a pliars and get it off. That spring is really tough, the tube has a couple slots and hooks so you push and turn to get it loose. I threw many of those away and installed the later edition which you can just screw the lens off like Allan suggested to replace the bulb. This style you still have is a two handed job to replace bulb, one on each side of dash.
