Same reason folks raise certain species of dogs, you can sell them for a profit. I don't raise them, Pepe has just been around here for 16 years now. He's not penned up and he never leaves. No need to, he's well fed and knows his territory well. Favorite food, dry cat food. He will chase off a half dozen full grown cats to steal their food too, very comical to watch. Mine does not have a peahen around, never has so he courts the chickens. Dances, rattles his feathers and hollers at them. Yea, they just ignore him but he never gives up.
