Welcome aboard! I have only been here about a year and still feel like a newcomer myself. It is great that you are interested in preserving the old equipment, sounds like you maybe able to put some of it to use later on. When working on something that is somewhat unfamiliar, I have found at least three things to be true, 1- Don't let it scare you. Machinery deserves respect, but not fear. If you let it scare you, you have two strikes against you already. Secondly, one must have the proper tools. (That should be a no brainer, but you would be surprised.) Third, as someone mentioned already, there is no substitute for a good service manual, preferably a factory service manual, (they can be found on e-bay or amazon), if not a good aftermarket manual will suffice. Today's Featured Article - Restoration Story: Fordson Major - by Anthony West. George bought his Fordson Major from a an implement sale about 18 years ago for �200.00 (UK). There is no known history regarding its origins or what service it had done, but the following work was undertaken alone to bring it up to show standard. From the engine number, it was found that this Major was produced late 1946. It was almost complete but had various parts that would definitely need replacing.
