You can't charge your customers enough to cover it when the competition is all 1099 based LLC workers and before that just plain 1099n self employed employees. The average worker has no idea what a good benefit package costs per month or any idea of the overhead there is on top of a well paid employee. 35% on top of wages doesn't even make you a profit, and then you add the benefits, it is no wonder the construction industry is about 80 percent 1099 workers.
