Well, it sounds like your idle circuit is blocked. Hopefully you can clear out the passage with a fine wire.
There must have been some gas left in the idle circuit, which isn't surprising for a generator since they typically don't idle. My generator has an "auto-idle" feature and I always run it dry at idle, and I'll usually put the choke on a bit to ensure it gets every last drop.
