There's been a lot of water uunder the dam since your tractor was built. The dash for an electric start 41 B was a cast iron one attached to the steering support post. At that time tractors could be ordered with electric start only, electric lights only, or electric start and lights. Most were the start & lights combination, but not all. So it's possible yours was built with lights only, but more likely has been converted back to hand start. Tractors without electrtics had only the temperature and oil pressure gages mounted in the sheet metal rear end panel of the hood. If the spokes of your wheels are welded to the rims they are cut-downs from steel wheels. A 12" wide rim on a B would tend to confirm this, again a very common modification as rubber tires became available after WWII. John Deere did use some flat spoke wheels for rubber tires, but the spokes are upset(forged) where they join the rim, not welded. Generally though, flat spoke wheels were originally steel rims. Glad you got it running so easily, another one saved from the Chinese steel mills.
