The jersey calves won't bring much as feeder cattle but if you can get them weaned cheap enough and then graze them and feed on just hay and whatever feed source is cheapest in your area then when they weigh around 850 they will bring slaughter cow price or a little better. I buy all the light weight jersey, holstein, longhorn, and similar crossbred calves I can when available because they are cheap, but, you have to grow them cheap as well so plenty of pasture and minimal grain. It works for me but our climate allows grass to grow year round.
